Dan
Baker
My love of the outdoors started very young growing up in rural
Iowa. Family vacations were spent fishing for walleye and
northern pike in Minnesota and Canada, while summers closer
to home, were spent fishing local farm ponds for bullheads,
bluegill and largemouth bass.
I
continued my education at Iowa State University, where I
graduated in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Fisheries
and Wildlife Biology. This is also where I met Doug Young and
started a great friendship. After working temporary positions
with Indiana Department of Natural Resources and in California
with the US Fish and Wildlife Service, my path again crossed
with Doug's. Doug encouraged me to take a temporary position
with Idaho Department of Fish and Game, so I packed up and
moved to Stanley, Idaho. I started my career with IDFG in 1989
and have traveled around the Idaho hatchery system and currently
manage the Eagle Fish Hatchery.
Looking
for a hobby to fill my free time, I started custom matting
and framing artwork in 1992. It seemed like a logical
choice being surrounded by biologists collecting wildlife art,
and knowing it would only be a matter of time for Doug to take
his next step with his artwork. I have built Baker’s
Custom Framing into a small business, which I continue to operate
from my home. Baker’s Custom Framing is actively involved
with Ducks Unlimited, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Idaho
Conservation Officers Association, as well as many other charitable
organizations.
The highlight of my time spent in Idaho has been meeting
my wife Cyndi. We met in 1998, while Cyndi was working at IDFG
Headquarters and I was Assistant Hatchery Manager at Nampa
Fish Hatchery. We were married a year later in Weiser, Idaho,
where Cyndi grew up. Cyndi shares my love of the outdoors and
has out-fished me on many occasions fishing for crappie at
Brownlee Reservoir.
Thank you for visiting our website and hopefully our artwork
will find a place in your home or office.
